To bring out the best from your iPod you will need to take a digital signal from it to your amplifier. The Onkyo ND-S1 does just that and therefore outperforms any of its analogue rivals. Designed to partner Onkyo’s award-winning range of A/V receivers—as well as the company’s new DAC-equipped A-5VL amplifier—the ND-S1 dock can also be used as a standalone device alongside any A/V receiver/amplifier equipped with a digital input.
Adding an Onkyo ND-S1 Digital Media Transport to an A/V or DAC-equipped hi-fi system effectively turns an iPod into a versatile audiophile-grade multimedia server that can be held in the palm of the hand.
For maximum connection flexibility, both optical and coaxial digital outputs are provided on the Transport's rear panel. A mini USB port allows connection and synchronization between a mounted iPod and the iTunes application running on a connected PC. Audio files from your computer can also be output from the ND-S1's digital audio outputs.
To ensure optimal audio fidelity, Onkyo has incorporated a high-precision clock reference (accurate to +/- 10 ppm) into the Transport. This ensures that sonically harmful jitter levels are kept to an absolute minimum, ensuring outstanding, high-definition sound quality.
Naturally, the Onkyo NDS1 Transport charges all compatible iPods when they are placed in the dock. Meanwhile, the unit's composite video output provides adequate video quality for casual viewing or monitoring.
The included remote control allows users to perform standard command functions, such as shuffle, repeat, and resume. The Transport can also be integrated into Onkyo A/V and Hi-Fi systems via RI (Remote Interactive), our renowned control protocol that allows simple, one-remote control of the entire system.
